The Land
(All of the photos you find on our site are actual photos of our property, people, plants and animals that are or have been part of Prairie Creek unless otherwise noted.)Our property is situated in South Central Missouri in the Ozarks.We have 120 acres that borders 1000's of acres of the National Forest.The property contains a water well, two creeks and one lake full of aquatic life.The land has pastured and forest areas with a ridge and valleys. Wildlife roams the land here and range from quail & turkey to deer.Many wild edible and medicinal plants can be found all over the property and have a wide variety of uses.We utilize heirloom varieties to grow our crops and therefore have a plentiful variety of domestic plants and herbs as well.We are currently on grid until the day comes when we have established ourselves to the point we can officially pull the plug on corporate America and sustain ourselves.Our goal is to find alternative energy sources and maximize their use here. We are considering wind, sun and water to complement our green, energy efficient, permanent structures. More on that under the opportunity tab.

The People
The People of Prairie Creek are going to be a colorful variety. This is what it takes to make a community work. There are going to be people you love and people you... well, we all just need to learn to get along.One of the first things we have to understand is that it takes a wide variety of people to form a wonderfully working unit. Think about it. If you were to apply for the job of your dreams are you given an opportunity to personally interview all of your co-workers? Not in the real world. You simply find the job you love and pray you get the position you always hoped for. Once you get that position at the job you dreamt of you usually will do what it takes to keep that job, even if it means occasionally putting up with people you don't particularly care for. Because, after all, isn't this really what you always dreamt of?If this homesteading opportunity, or self-sufficient lifestyle is truly something you dream about and desire, we will make it if we are all determined to just get along through thick and thin. It's pretty amazing to see how trials and troubles make you stronger and that is just what we need for the potential times that lie ahead. We need a solid core of individuals who are reliable and trustworthy that we can each bond together with.It's not a cakewalk. It's tough and tiring at times and it's been a long struggle to find real dedicated people who fit the bill. But we know when it finally comes together there will be peace and relaxation for all involved.If you are the type who excels at whatever you put your hand to...You are interested in a variety of areas and fields...Or you are known to 'think outside the box'...Then Prairie Creek Settlement is the wonderful exciting challenge you've been waiting for.
